How to calculate cubic meters
The cubic meter (or metre, with British spelling), is a unit of volume. In order to calculate the cubic capacity of an object or space, you need to measure a series of dimensions, specifically width, length and height, and then put them into a formula.
To ensure you calculate an accurate result, it is important that all of your measurements are in the same unit. For any conversions, you can use our length converter.
Formula for calculating cubic meters
- From meters: length (m) × width (m) × height (m)
- From cm: length (cm) × width (cm) × height (cm) ÷ 1000000
- From feet: length (ft) × width (ft) × height (ft) ÷ 35.3147
Example cubic meter calculation
Let's say you want to calculate the CBM volume of a box that measures 50 × 44 × 22 cm. Your calculation would be as follows:
Step 1: 50 × 44 × 22 = 48,400 cm³
Step 2: 48400 ÷ 1000000 = 0.0484 m³
